Writing Research – Due to the Dead

One of my current WIPs revolves around a burial ground. (No, not a Native American one. It’s a perfectly normal-for-the-culture place to keep and reverence the dead.) Which gives me an excuse to talk about the Order of the Good Death.

You may’ve heard of the Ask a Mortician video series. If you haven’t, I recommend checking out the YouTube channel. Caitlin Doughty is a mortician who is trying to revolutionize the funeral industry, and as a result, she talks a lot about what we’ve done, what we are doing, and what we could do when it comes to dealing with our dead. (On a purely personal note, her videos helped me process the death of my father a few years back.)

The Order of the Good Death website collects articles from other morticians who’ve joined Doughty in her revolution. Depending on what you’re working on, they may not go deep enough into a topic for you, but it makes for a good starting point.
